The authorities detained Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill outside Hard Rock Stadium in Miami-Dade County on Sunday shortly before the Dolphins’ season-opening game, the team said in a statement.
Mr. Hill, 30, was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium, briefly detained by the police, and then released, the Dolphins said. He later suited up for Sunday afternoon’s game between the Dolphins and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
One video posted on social media appears to show Mr. Hill being placed on the ground by officers and being handcuffed.
It was not immediately clear what led to Mr. Hill’s detention. In its statement, the Dolphins organization said that “several teammates saw the incident and stopped to offer support.”
Stephanie V. Daniels, director of the Miami-Dade Police Department, said in a statement on Sunday that Mr. Hill had been detained by officers with her department and that she had requested a review of the incident.
Ms. Daniels said that her department had requested “an immediate review of all details surrounding the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage.” She did not elaborate further on the incident.
Drew Rosenhaus, Mr. Hill’s agent, told ESPN on Sunday that the player received a ticket for a moving violation when entering the stadium and “was very distraught about what happened.” Mr. Rosenhaus did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday.
The wide receiver has been one of the most productive players in the N.F.L. since entering the league in 2016 with Kansas City. He was traded to Miami in 2022. Last year, he led the league in receiving yards (1,799) and receiving touchdowns (13).
He made three receptions in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against Jacksonville.
