Barack Obama raised strong concerns about voter registration and engagement during his recent appearance on the I’ve Had It podcast.
The former president voiced his frustration with unregistered voters, particularly among younger demographics stating, “For those of you who are unregistered and not thinking about voting, I have permanently had it with you.”
Obama wants to encourage people to work toward a country where women are respected and their healthcare choices are honored.
He also advocated for a nation that ensures fair wages, addresses climate change and treats everyone with respect and dignity.
He always tells younger people, “you wouldn’t let your grandparents make decisions about what you wear or what you listen to so why are you letting them make decisions without any input from you about the kind of country you’re going to be living in.”
Obama also indicated these critical issues will not be supported by Project 2025.
“Everyone should have the opportunity to get a job, work hard, and make something of themselves,” the former president said. “When they are down on their luck or something happens, we as a community should come together and pick them up and that is not what Project 2025 stands for.”
Project 2025 is a conservative initiative organized by The Heritage Foundation, aimed at shaping the next conservative administration by 2025.
The project focuses on four pillars: policy, personnel, training and a 180-day playbook outlining actions for the first days of a new administration. This effort involves collaboration among various conservative organizations to “undo the damage” of liberal policies and implement conservative governance from day one.
“This is an agenda that has been put together that would take away rights and freedoms that so many of us take for granted. It would dismantle services like the Department of Education, it’s not the type of America we’d want to live in.”
Obama wrapped up the podcast by expressing his enthusiasm for the Harris-Walz ticket, pledging to work hard to help secure their victory. He encouraged others to join him in supporting their campaign.
“These are the people we want leading us in the kind of country we are looking for, the kind where we build a better future for our kids,” Obama said.
Unregistered Voters in the United States
As of the 2020 U.S. presidential election, there were approximately 51 million eligible but unregistered voters in the United States, according to estimates from organizations like the U.S. Census Bureau and other voter advocacy groups.
This number represents about 21% of the voting-eligible population, highlighting a significant portion of potential voters who do not participate in elections due to being unregistered.
These figures can fluctuate with voter registration drives and changing demographics, but unregistered voters remain a crucial target for political campaigns and advocacy groups working to increase voter turnout.
