EXCLUSIVE: Golden Globe nominee Griffin Dunne (After Hours) has been tapped for a supporting role in Darren Aronofsky’s Sony crime thriller Caught Stealing, starring Austin Butler.
No word on the part he’s playing. Based on the books by Charlie Huston, who adapted the screenplay, the film follows Hank Thompson (Butler), a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ’90s NYC.
As previously announced, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Will Brill and Bad Bunny will also star, with Aronofsky’s Protozoa producing.
Known for turns in iconic films like An American Werewolf in London and Martin Scorsese’s After Hours, Dunne has also over the years been seen in Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch, Ocean’s Eight, War Machine, Dallas Buyers Club, Quiz Show and more. In television, he’s most recently been seen on Max’s The Girls on the Bus. Prior to that playing a key supporting role on NBC’s This Is Us, he’s also been seen on Amazon’s provocative Joey Soloway dramedy I Love Dick and Billy Bob Thornton-led legal thriller Goliath, Showtime’s House of Lies and other series.

Also an esteemed filmmaker, who garnered an Oscar nomination for his 1996 live-action short Duke of Groove, Dunne’s New York Times bestselling family memoir, The Friday Afternoon Club, was published in June.
Headed up by Aronofsky and partner Ari Handel, Protozoa earlier this year signed on to produce a feature adaptation of 19-year-old Harvard student Wesley Wang’s short Nothing, Except Everything, which landed at TriStar Pictures in a competitive situation. Recent projects include Aronofsky’s A24 drama The Whale, which brought star Brendan Fraser his first Oscar, as well as the groundbreaking experience Postcard from Earth created for MSG’s Sphere in Las Vegas.
Dunne is represented by UTA and Constellation Media Group.
