The Off Broadway world premiere of the new Robert O’Hara play Shit. Meet. Fan. will feature a cast headed by Garret Dillahunt, Billy Magnussen and Debra Messing, MCC Theater announced today.
The play, which will also star Tramell Tillman and Constance Wu, begins previews Thursday October 10, at MCC Theater’s Newman Mills Theater, with an opening night on Monday October 28. The limited engagement runs through Sunday November 17.
O’Hara will direct his play, which is based on Paolo Genovese’s 2016 Italian comedy-drama Perfect Strangers. The movie holds the Guinness record for most remade film in cinema history, with more than 24 remakes in different languages.
Also in the cast will be Genevieve Hannelius, most recently seen in the Netflix original film Along for the Ride and the Netflix original series American Vandal. She is perhaps best known for starring on the three-time Emmy-nominated Disney Channel series Dog with a Blog.

That’s what a group of long-time friends gather to play on the night of the eclipse. With the cocktails flowing among grownups who refuse to grow up, outrageous secrets and skeletons begin to emerge… Shit. Meet. Fan. Are they ready for the ensuing chaos? Are you?”
The story unfolds in real time in what MCC calls an “uproarious new satire.” O’Hara, whose writing credits include the 2014 Off Broadway play Bootycandy, was Tony-nominated for his direction of Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play.
Dillahunt, best known for his performances in TV’s Deadwood and Fear The Walking Dead, has extensive stage credits, making his Broadway debut in 1996 with The Father. That year he also appeared in Broadway’s Inherit The Wind. Upcoming are recurring roles on Hysteria (Peacock) and High Potential (ABC) and in the films The Huntsman and Sarah’s Oil.
Magnussen received a Tony nomination for his role of Spike in 2013’s Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at Lincoln Center. On screen, he’s currently appearing in the indie film Coup!, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival. Other recent credits include the Netflix action-comedy Lift with Kevin Hart and in Amazon’s Road House remake with Jake Gyllenhaal. He’ll soon star in HBO’s comedic series The Franchise by Sam Mendes and Armando Iannucci, debuting this fall.
Messing is best known for her Emmy-winning role as Grace Adler on NBC’s Will & Grace, and roles in the network’s The Mysteries of Laura and Smash. Most recently, Messing filmed the Warner Brothers mob drama Alto Knights opposite Robert De Niro. She made her Broadway debut in John Patrick Shanley’s 2014 Tony-nominated Outside Mullingar, and most recently starred in the 2022 Broadway production of 2022 Noah Haidle’s Birthday Candles. Off Broadway credits include Shanley’s Four Dogs and a Bone, Collected Stories by Donald Marguiles, and The Naked Truth by Paul Rudnick.
Tillman is best known for his performance as Milchick on the Apple TV+ series Severance starring Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro. He’ll next be seen in Mission Impossible 8 starring Tom Cruise. He made his Broadway debut in 2019’s The Great Society starring Brian Cox.
Wu starred in the Jon M. Chu’s hit romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians. Other credits include the film Lyle, Lyle Crocodile, the Amazon series The Terminal List and Solos. Her breakout role was as Jessica Huang in ABC’s comedy series Fresh off the Boat. She will next appear in The Friend alongside Naomi Watts, Bill Murray, Ann Dowd, and Noma Dumezweni.
The creative team of Shit. Meet. Fan. will include Clint Ramos, scenic design; Sarafina Bush, costume design; Alex Jainchill, lighting design; and Palmer Hefferan, sound design. Imani Champion is the Production Stage Manager, and casting is by The Telsey Office.
