The Philadelphia Eagles ended 2023 earlier than expected when the team was handily beaten by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round of the 2023 playoffs. The Eagles went 10-1 in their first 11 games but lost their footing toward the end of the season.

Jalen Hurts appeared to struggle later on in the season, and the result of those struggles was the team exiting the postseason early. The Eagles are now back to attempt another Super Bowl run, and they are continuing to make roster moves to ensure that happens.
The Eagles announced on Wednesday that veteran tight end C.J. Uzomah has been released and they signed offensive lineman Jason Poe.
Dallas Goedert is one of the best tight ends in the NFL, and the Eagles have Grant Calcaterra, Albert Okwuegbunam Jr., and E.J. Jenkins as depth for the position. Despite Uzomah being a longtime veteran, he will now have to find a new team.
Uzomah began his career with the Cincinnati Bengals, when he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
Uzomah’s rookie season saw the tight end only appear in one game. Despite his slow NFL start, he would eventually evolve into a pass-catching weapon. His most successful season came in 2021 when he secured 491 yards and five touchdowns.
After seven seasons with the Bengals, Uzomah would sign with the New York Jets. Through nine seasons, Uzomah recorded 1,881 yards and 16 touchdowns.
The Eagles also picked up offensive lineman Jason Poe. Poe is early on in his career and joined the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent. He would spend the 2022 and 2023 seasons on the 49ers’ practice squad, eventually joining the New York Jets’ practice squad.
Now, Poe joins the Eagles to rebound his career and potentially make the 53-man roster.
Poe plays guard and could find himself backing up Mekhi Becton, Tyler Steen, and Brett Toth.
Becton has been angling to secure the starting right guard position but has been in direct competition with Steen. Becton has lost the inside track on the job due to a nagging ankle injury that has kept him out of some training camp practices.

Considering Becton might be dealing with an injury, the Eagles have chosen to add some potential depth in Poe. Becton has returned to practice since injuring his ankle, but it is always good to bring in depth for insurance purposes.
Poe might have a long shot to make the roster, but he could be a practice squad member for the Eagles moving forward.
