Lady Gaga has been teasing her seventh studio album, which she and fans have dubbed LG7, for months. But before she unleashes a new album, she decided to surprise fans with a little treat — and brought along a special guest. On Aug. 16, Gaga released a new single with Bruno Mars, “Die With A Smile,” marking their first duet.
The unexpected duo have been teasing that something new was up their sleeve. On Aug. 13, Gaga showed off her Mars T-shirt while playing the piano on Instagram, perhaps giving a taste of what was to come. The next day, Mars returned the favor by wearing Gaga merch, before unveiling the cover art for their collaboration.
While Mars rocks a cowboy hat and Gaga does her best Dolly Parton cosplay in the music video, complete with platinum blonde hair as high as heaven, “Die With A Smile” is only slightly country. The anthemic ‘70s soul ballad is the perfect blend of Gaga’s emotive pop melodies and Mars’ old-school R&B influences, with just a little twang-y instrumentation, leading to an epic guitar solo.

As Variety confirmed with Gaga’s rep, “Die With A Smile” is a stand-alone single and may not appear on LG7, which does not yet have a release date.
