Catfish host Nev Schulman broke his neck last Monday in Southampton after a deadly bicycle accident.
The TV personality says he was on his way to pick up his son from school when he was hit by a truck and lost control of the bike, according to TMZ.
“I never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike,” he said. “In fact in some ways, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement. I was alone and unconscious.”
The 39-year-old says he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors quickly diagnosed him and performed emergency surgery.
“Stable fractures,” he said. “I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are HUMANS.”
Nev posted pictures of himself in a neck brace, in his hospital bed, and with hospital staff including a physical therapist who was helping him out of bed to get him walking again. He also showed a scar on the back of his neck from the procedure.
The Dancing with the Stars alum shared a video of the broken helmet that saved his life. He says he’s aware of how lucky he is and how important helmets are.
In one of Nev’s pics, you can see drawings from his three kids, 7-year-old Cleo James, 5-year-old Beau Bobby Bruce, and 2-year-old Cy Monroe. He also shared a pic of his wife Laura laying in the hospital bed with him.
“I’m lucky to be here, alive, standing and hugging my family, projected to make a full recovery, And I’m really starting to understand the meaning of gratitude,” he says “For the big and little things before the accident, and now everything moving forward.”
He concluded his post by reminding fans: “Life can change in an instant.”
