In the first match of SummerSlam 2024 in Cleveland, OH, Rhea Ripley dislocated her shoulder when Liv Morgan threw her into the turnbuckle.
Immediately, viewers could tell that something was wrong. Ripley continued to yell, “It’s out! It’s out!” as she ran out of the ring.
Despite this, Morgan continued her assault ringside. After fighting her off, Ripley ran shoulder-first into the announcers’ table, attempting to slam her shoulder back in place. She then turned toward the camera and popped it back in, leaving the crowd at Cleveland Browns Stadium cheering.
The match would continue on, but it looked like the shoulder may have gotten dislocated one or two more times. Each instant this happened, Ripley popped it back in and continued the match.
Ripley was originally injured on April 8 after Wrestlemania XL when Liv Morgan attacked her backstage. In response, Ripley vacated the World Women’s Championship. It was later won by Morgan when she defeated Becky Lynch at King and Queen of the Ring on May 25, 2024.
At that time, Morgan attempted to seduce Dominik Mysterio in Rhea’s absence. While it seems like she didn’t succeed at first, it looks like her tenacity paid off tonight.
The match ended when Ripley was about to hit Morgan with a chair. In order to prevent her disqualification, Mysterio ripped the chair out of Mami’s arms. This gave Morgan the opportunity to hit Ripley with an Oblivion.
After a near fall, Dirty Dom threw the chair back in the ring as he distracted the referee, allowing Liv Morgan to once again hit her finisher, this time face-first into the chair.
At this point, there’s no telling what this betrayal will mean for Judgement Day. World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest appeared furious in the clubhouse, but Finn Balor, JD McDonagh, and Carlito seemed more afraid of Priest than worried about Ripley.
Damian Priest will defend his World Heavyweight Championship later tonight against Gunther. Priest earned his title by cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Drew McIntyre at Wrestlemania XL. Since Ripley’s injury, he has served as the de facto leader of Judgement Day. Time will tell if the rest of Judgment Day will turn on him later when he faces the Ring General.
Even though Morgan left with Mysterio in her arms, Rhea Ripley easily came out the winner in the crowd’s eyes. Her already immense popularity will definitely surge after she makes a recovery.
