Kamala Harris said that Donald Trump’s remarks before the National Association of Black Journalists on Wednesday were the “same old show,” calling him out for being divisive and disrespectful as he answered questions from three moderators.
But Harris, in remarks to an international gathering of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority in Houston, did not specifically call out Trump’s questioning of her racial identity, as he falsely claimed that only recently did she become “a Black person.”
“It was the same old show, the divisiveness and the disrespect,” Harris said of Trump’s appearance at the NABJ convention. “And let me just say: The American people deserve better…The American people deserve a leader who tells the truth, a leader who does not respond with hostility and anger when confronted with the facts. We deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us. They are an essential source of our strength.”
CNN and MSNBC carried the speech; Fox News stayed with Jesse Watters’ show.
At the NABJ appearance, Trump sparred with one of the moderators, ABC News’ Rachel Scott, who at the outset confronted him with past statements that he has made about people of color, including Barack Obama and Nikki Haley.
