Donald Trump’s combative and sometime incoherent controversial “tirade” Wednesday at National Associate of Black Journalists convention has been condemned by Kamala Harris’ campaign and defended by the GOP nominee’s running mate.
Among various assertions, false claims, and more in Chicago today, Trump threw shade on whether the Vice President is actually Black. “I’ve known her for a long time indirectly, directly, very much,” Trump exclaimed. “And she was always of Indian heritage and she was promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she Black?”
As the VP flies to Houston for a number of events (and undoubtedly will address Trump’s attacks on her today), Harris for President Communications director Michael Taylor left no ambiguity about what a train wreak the poll dipping former president’s NABJ appearance was:
The hostility Donald Trump showed on stage today is the same hostility he has shown throughout his life, throughout his term in office, and throughout his campaign for president as he seeks to regain power and inflict his harmful Project 2025 agenda on the American people.
Trump lobbed personal attacks and insults at Black journalists the same way he did throughout his presidency – while he failed Black families and left the entire country digging out of the ditch he left us in. Donald Trump has already proven he cannot unite America, so he attempts to divide us.
Today’s tirade is simply a taste of the chaos and division that has been a hallmark of Trump’s MAGA rallies this entire campaign. It’s also exactly what the American people will see from across the debate stage as Vice President Harris offers a vision of opportunity and freedom for all Americans. All Donald Trump needs to do is stop playing games and actually show up to the debate on September 10.
In a clear taste of how vitriolic the race for the White House between Trump and the VP is going to be and how the campaign’s seem to live in two different Americas, the GOP put out its own very long spin on how its candidate’s clash with everyone in Windy City went:
President Trump has continually said that unlike Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, he’s running to be President for ALL Americans, and if you’re running to unite the entire Country, you have to back it up with action like President Trump did today at the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago.
Members of the media need to make a decision, and answer if their goal is to unite the Country or further divide us, because based on the unhinged and unprofessional commentary directed toward President Trump today by certain members of the media, many media elites clearly want to see us remain divided. This is unacceptable.
Slighted by Trump at the NABJ Convention Wednesday, potential VP Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) hit social media to impress his audience of one. “President Trump walked right into the NABJ conference and showed he had the courage to take tough questions, while Kamala Harris continues to hide from any scrutiny or unfriendly media like the coward she is,” Vance wrote on X.
Ahead in the polls, mocking Trump for casting doubt on future debates, and expected to unveil her own VP pick soon, Harris is scheduled to speak later today in Houston, TX at a campaign event and the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority’s 60th International Biennial Boule.
