A Marine is dead after he was involved in a vehicle rollover during a training exercise on a California military base, officials said Sunday.
The unidentified Marine was critically injured on Saturday when a high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicle flipped at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, the base said in a press release.
Following the rollover, the soldier was treated at Robert E. Bush Naval Hospital and then evacuated to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs where he was pronounced dead on Sunday.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the Marine during this difficult time,” the Center wrote.
The name of the service member who was assigned to the tactical training exercise control group, won’t be released until 24 hours after all next-of-kin are informed, the base said.
No other Marine was injured during the training exercise, officials said.
The investigation into the rollover is ongoing.
