Netflix will debut a new Korean unscripted series every month until the first quarter of 2025, including The Devil’s Plan 2 and the fourth season of dating reality show Single’s Inferno.
The streamer has invested heavily in its Korean unscripted slate, with 10 shows premiering this year — more than double the number from two years ago. Some of these shows were announced at its Korean slate launch in February this year.
Social survival show The Influencer will debut on August 6, pitting 77 of South Korea‘s top influencers against each other. Together, they have a total of 120 million followers across platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, with figures like Jang Keun-suk, RISABAE, PaniBottle, Jin Yong-jin, Shim Eu-ddeum, and DaeDo set to feature in the show. It comes from Kakao Entertainment.
A-list to Playlist will be released on August 30, featuring veteran actor Cho Jung-seok from the hit drama series Hospital Playlist as he embarks on a journey to become a singer-songwriter. Assisting him are his close friends Jung Sang-hoon and Moon Sang-hoon, alongside Korean musicians like Gummy and Dynamicduo. CJ ENM and Jung-woo Yang are producing.
Netflix’s first Korean cooking competition, Culinary Class Wars, will debut in September, featuring star chefs and 100 contestants. Restaurateur Paik Jong-won and Anh Sung-jae serve as judges of the show. Anh runs MOSU Seoul, Korea’s only three Michelin-starred restaurant. It’s from Studio Slam.
Another show from Kakao, Comedy Revenge, will debut in October, featuring comedy legend Lee Kyung-kyu as he leads 22 comedians in a battle of humor.
Other unscripted series that will release towards the later part of this year include Studio C1’s sports survival reality show Rugged Rugby: Conquer or Die as well as Kakao’s second season of Zombieverse: New Blood.
In 2025, Netflix will release the TEO-produced second season of The Devil’s Plan and the fourth season of the popular dating reality show Single’s Inferno, from Shijak Company. The streamer will also debut the Studio Modak-produced Kian’s Bizarre B&B, featuring the webtoon artist and host as he opens a guesthouse on the island of Ulleungdo.
Ki Hwan Yoo, Director of Content at Netflix Korea, said: “We believe it’s important to be loved locally first before we can win over global audiences. Our main aim is to create shows that our viewers truly enjoy, and each show has its own unique appeal that matches what they want.”
