New York Attorney General Letitia James said her “singular focus” is helping Vice President Kamala Harris beat Donald Trump in the election — just months after she successfully prosecuted the former president with a controversial $454 million civil fraud judgment.
James, who has long denied having a personal vendetta against Trump, slammed the Republican presidential candidate as an “existential threat” as she offered up a glowing endorsement for Harris during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The ReidOut” late Tuesday.
“I’m focused at this point in time on securing the nomination for Vice President Harris, and then ultimately getting her elected,” the AG told host Joy Reid after President Biden dropped his 2024 re-election campaign.
“That is my singular focus at this point in time, and continuing to stand up for the rule of law and representing the citizens of the great state of New York, as we do each and every day.”
James stressed her sole focus when asked if she hoped Harris would appoint her as her attorney general if she secures the White House.
Elsewhere in the interview, James doubled down and continued to unleash on Trump — who has repeatedly accused her of wielding a witchhunt against him — as she issued a rallying cry for Americans to vote against him.
“He’s not concerned about the rule of law, not concerned about the interests of working-class people in this country, not concerned about uniting us. It’s all about how he can benefit himself and his family,” the AG argued.
“And that’s why all of us, all of us, must march to the polls with quiet dignity and vote. There’s so much at stake, it’s really critically important that individual understand that he represents an existential threat to all that we believe in,” she continued.
“That’s why we must stand together and elect Vice President Harris.”
James insisted Harris was in the “best position to go after” her GOP foe and claimed Republicans were “running scared” at the prospect of going up against her.
“The reality is, is that Kamala Harris, Vice President Harris, is qualified and, oftentimes, she’s underestimated, but she’s an overachiever,” James gushed.
“And that’s why I have wholeheartedly endorsed her. It’s unfortunate that individuals are just amplifying racism and sexism and it’s totally inappropriate. And I will not dignify it with a response.”
James’ attack on the former commander-in-chief comes after she won her civil fraud judgment against him in February, which accused Trump of inflating his wealth by billions to dupe banks and investors into helping him grow his real estate empire.
The 45th president, who is currently appealing the verdict that saw him banned from doing business in the Big Apple for three years, has long accused James of launching a political “witch hunt” after her office first brought the case against him in 2020.
In the wake of the verdict, Trump doubled down by slamming the decision as “election interference” – and claiming the justice system had been made into “weaponization against a political opponent.”
James, on her part, has denied having a “personal vendetta” against him.
At one point, though, the AG started trolling Trump on social media by blasting out a daily tally of the money he potentially now owes in interest as the appeals process draws out.
