White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre appeared on The View to share her thoughts on Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race.
Joy Behar asked Jean-Pierre Biden if he felt betrayed by the “pile on” from Democrats and Hollywood personalities like George Clooney, who asked him to step down.
“He understands where people are. He understands having done this, 36 years as a Senator, eight years as Vice President, and now almost four years as President,” Jean-Pierre said after teasing Biden would speak more about his decision in a televised address to the nation. “He gets where we are as a country.”
She continued, “Let’s not forget, there’s a lot at stake. There’s a lot at stake guys, a lot. Our democracy is at stake. A woman’s right to choose and to make decisions on their body’s is at stake. Voting rights is at stake and he gets that. Let’s not forget why he ran in the first place. In 2020 he decided to jump in, he didn’t have to, he decided to jump in because he wanted to save the soul of this nation.”
George Clooney published an op-ed in The New York Times calling on Biden to drop out of the race, citing the president’s debate performance. After Biden dropped out, Clooney has now endorsed Kamala Harris saying in a statement, “President Biden has shown what true leadership is. He’s saving democracy once again. We’re all so excited to do whatever we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest.”
