NBC has picked up its two outstanding pilots to series, the hourlong Suits: L.A., starring Stephen Amell, and Grosse Pointe Garden Society. However, it has not been determined yet whether any of them will premiere during the 2024-25 seasons.
NBC already has two new drama and two new comedy series set for next season, dramas Brilliant Minds and The Hunting Party which, like Grosse Pointe Garden Society, originated as a writers room commission in February 2023, as well as comedies St. Denis Medical and the Reba McEntire-led Happy’s Place.
Along with the pickups, NBC has released first-look images for Suits: L.A. and Grosse Pointe Garden Society. You can see them below.
As Deadline reported last month, both pilots had come in solid and looking good for an order.
With a globally recognizable title thanks to Suits‘ recent Netflix success, offshoot Suits: L.A. had been considered a strong proposition from the moment it was announced. It comes from Suits creator Aaron Korsh, has proven TV star in Stephen Amell and is said to carry the original series’ signature wit.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society also comes from established creators, Good Girls‘ Jenna Bans and Bill Krebs. In a sign of confidence, the project’s producer, NBC sibling Universal Television, recently signed new multi-year deals with both.
Suits: L.A. is not a reboot or revival of the original USA series but more like a new chapter in the vein of the CSI and NCIS franchises featuring new characters in a new location.
The series is centered on Ted Black (Stephen Amell), a former federal prosecutor from New York, who has reinvented himself by representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career.
Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both him and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is happening while events from years ago slowly unravel, leading Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.
In addition to Amell, the pilot’s cast also includes Bryan Greenberg, Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Troy Winbush. John Amos, Victoria Justice and Kevin Weisman guest star.
Korsh executive produces alongside David Bartis and Doug Liman under their Hypnotic production banner and Gene Klein, who were EPs with him on the original series. Victoria Mahoney directed and executive produced the pilot. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society follows four members of a suburban garden club — Birdie (Melissa Fumero), Alice (AnnaSophia Robb), Brett (Ben Rappaport) and Catherine (Aja Naomi King) — all from different walks of life, who get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.
The NBC drama pilot hails from Jenna Bans, Bill Krebs and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Maggie Kiley directed and executive produces with Bans via her Minnesota Logging Co., Krebs and Casey Kyber. Grosse Pointe Garden Society pilot’s series also stars Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Nancy Travis and Felix Avitia.
