Believe it or not, the 2020 Dave Bautista comedy, My Spy—which was released straight-to-streaming on Amazon, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic—has a sequel titled My Spy: The Eternal City coming to Amazon tomorrow.
Directed by Pete Segal, who also directed the first movie, My Spy: The Eternal City sees the return of Bautista as J.J., a CIA operative who formed an unlikely partnership with a young girl, Sophie (played by Chloe Coleman). But it’s been five years, and Sophie isn’t as young as she once was. This time around, J.J. accompanies Sophie on her school trip to Italy, where they both get caught up in a terrorist plot. Action comedies always have to go to Europe in the sequel!
Anna Faris and Craig Robinson are joining the cast of this sequel, while Kristen Schaal and Ken Jeong will reprise their roles from the first film. Though the first film was met with mixed reviews from critics, it was a streaming success for Prime. Will the sequel be able to replicate that success? We’ll have to wait and see.
