James Gunn shared an update on Superman‘s filming status, thanking the city of Cleveland after wrapping up production in the city.
The DC Studios co-head took to social media to express his gratitude to the city in Ohio and teased that filming for the superhero movie was not complete but was inching closer to being done.
“Cleveland – today we are leaving you after six amazing weeks of shooting. From the moment we first came here on a scout a tad less than a year ago and Terminal Tower was lit up with the colors of Superman, I knew you were a special place,” Gunn posted on Threads alongside a set of photos from his time in the city. “I would walk down your streets and someone would stop me and tell me how grateful they were we were shooting in their city – not once, not twice, but dozens of times.”
In a second post, Gunn also thanked the “wonderful background actors” who “were always so fun and funny” as “they clapped after takes” reminding him as to why he makes movies.
“Every city would be so lucky to have people that loved their city as much as you,” Gunn added. “You simply couldn’t have been more wonderful, kind, or accommodating to me and our performers and crew. Thank you a thousand times over for being our friends and partners on this film. Much love to you all.”
Gunn also clarified for fans that Superman was not done filming, production had just wrapped in the city of Cleveland.
“We are not done shooting. Still a couple weeks left. Just done shooting in Cleveland. And yeah it’s a long shoot… but we’re getting close!!” the director posted on Threads.
Superman stars David Corenswet in the titled role, which is set for release on July 11, 2025. The cast also includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer. The ensemble includes Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion.
