Florals? For Wimbledon? Groundbreaking, Pippa Middleton.
Ok, so Miranda Priestley may have had a point—there are certain occasions (such as, say, spring or Wimbledon) when florals aren’t exactly revolutionary. However, there’s something else about the latest look from Pippa that is just a little groundbreaking.
Pippa Middleton made an appearance at Wimbledon yesterday, joining her sister, Kate Middleton, and her niece, Princess Charlotte, in the royal box to watch Novak Djokovic take on Carlos Alcaraz in the Men’s Final. While Kate opted for a regal purple midi dress in the exact shade of the official Wimbledon colors, her sister went the strawberries and cream route, wearing a fluttery white midi dress covered in a pink floral print.
The dress, designed by Beulah London, featured a pink ribbon-tie waist, a fluttery ruffled detail around the chest, and a matching ruffled hem, giving it a feminine, floaty silhouette that was utterly perfect for a sunny day out at Centre Court.
But although the dress may have seemed like it was practically made for Wimbledon, this isn’t the first time Pippa has worn it. In fact, she wore the exact same dress while attending the wedding of her brother, James Middleton, back in 2021.
It seems that Pippa was making a subtle nod to their brother with her choice of dress. And, of course, we love to see the royals giving their clothes more than one outing.
Sunday marked Pippa and Kate’s third official joint Wimbledon appearance — the pair previously appeared in the royal box together in both 2019 and in 2012. (Interestingly, Kate opted for a simple, block color dress on both occasions, while Pippa wore two other printed floral numbers— we are sensing a sisterly sartorial trend, here.) However, Pippa and Kate are life-long tennis fans who have been attending the annual tournament for years.
“I first went to Wimbledon when I was eight years old and already a very keen tennis player,” Pippa wrote for Vanity Fair back in 2013. “During this first trip I acted on my childish tennis dreams and bought myself a postcard of the women’s championship trophy, on which I wrote, ‘I will win this one day,’ with my signature below.”
Pippa also recalled how she and Kate once got in line at 5:00 a.m. for tickets to Centre Court back in 2004.
Pippa and Kate’s joint appearance at Wimbledon marks their first outing together since Kate’s cancer diagnosis earlier this year. Kate made her first public appearance last month at the annual Trooping of the Colour, while Pippa made her first appearance of the year just a few days earlier, attending the Men’s Semi-Finals at Wimbledon on Friday.
