DM2C Studio, a division of the DMM Group conglomerate in Japan, said today it is launching the Seamoon Protocol for Web3 games and entertainment.
The protocol is a blockchain-based gaming and entertainment project featuring DMM.com Group’s industry-leading intellectual property catalog.
Seamoon Protocol is also backed by the New York-based venture capital firm, Galaxy Interactive, which served as DM2C Studio’s lead investor during its initial fundraising round in December 2023. Other notable DM2C strategic partners include industry heavyweights Shima Capital, Bitfinex, Marblex, Square Enix, Planetarium Labs, Mask Network and DeFimans.
As part of the Seamoon Protocol launch, DM2C Studio plans to introduce a native token, called DM2P, which will serve as the primary currency of Seamoon Protocol’s digital economy. The DM2P token is designed to meet ERC-20 specifications, which will enable users to leverage the token across virtually all of the world’s major blockchains.
In addition, the DM2P token will serve as a mechanism to reward the Seamoon Protocol community for its members’ daily activities and game play. The DM2P token listing is planned for late-summer on several leading global digital asset exchanges.
DM2C Studio is taking a multi-pronged approach to bring games to market on Seamoon Protocol by combining its in-house and co-development capabilities and by enabling third-party companies to use Seamoon Protocol as a distribution platform for their games. Seamoon Protocol’s first batch of new releases is set to launch in the coming months.
The games will include a Web3 version of the popular DMM.com title, Kanpani Girls RE: BLOOM, which has a peak total of 2.5 million player accounts, as well as debut projects Kyrie & Terra, Bounty Hunters and CoinMusme.
“Seamoon Protocol will enable global audiences to enjoy the world’s best games anytime and provide our community with opportunities to gain new rewards and experiences that go beyond anything that currently exists in the market,” said DM2C Studio CEO, Nagato Kasaki, in a statement. “We are very grateful for the support of our esteemed partners in both Japan and abroad who have helped make Seamoon Protocol a reality.”
“Our primary criterion for selecting investment opportunities is whether the company possesses unique qualities that other companies cannot easily replicate,” said Ryan You, partner at Galaxy Interactive, in a statement. “We see several of these aspects in DM2C, including a large library of original content beloved by enthusiastic fan communities, a track record of success that transcends dozens of sectors and the ability to scale thanks to the backing and enterprise-wide capabilities of DMM.com Group.”
