Sports fans were peeved that President Biden’s highly scrutinized “big boy” press conference delayed the start of the ESPY Awards Thursday night.
While Biden was fielding questions from reporters during his press conference” at Washington’s Convention Center after the annual NATO Summit with his reelection bid in the balance, the anticipated annual sports awards show that was supposed to air on ABC was kept on ice — and users on social media weren’t happy.
“i just tuned in to watch the espys why is joe biden on my screen,” one account tweeted.
“Why is biden on and not the ESPYS,” another lamented.
“Is this Biden press conference something that could have waited until tomorrow?” one user wondered.
“Because delaying [my] ability to watch Serena Williams host the #ESPYs live is not how you get MY Black vote.”
“Biden is losing every single sports fans vote right smh,” another angry fan wrote.
“How long is Biden going to carry on?” another griped.
“The ESPYS are on!”
The ESPYs are taking place in Los Angeles at The Dolby Theatre and was supposed to start at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
