The hilarious, and somewhat relatable, moment a woman went to great lengths to hide her fast-food indulgence from her husband has left internet viewers in stitches.
In a viral TikTok video posted by @angelhelenaa a week ago, the woman had been caught on the family’s outdoor household cameras sneaking out with her trash after enjoying a McDonald’s—just as her husband arrived home from work.
The text overlay reads: “Gotta throw out my McDonald’s evidence before hubby gets home from work.”
However, just as she had tiptoed to the bin in the footage, her husband had noticed what was afoot, spotting her just in time and playfully chasing her through the yard as the truth was revealed.
The couple hiding their eating habits from each other is something far from unique. A survey of 2,000 adults conducted in 2021 by OnePoll on behalf of Stuffed Puffs revealed that almost half (48 percent) admit to stashing their favorite treats in secret spots around the house—with no intention of sharing with their family.
Moreover, 72 percent said that their snack stashes had been discovered by others, prompting the average person to move their hiding spot four times. The most likely to have found the secret hiding space? Partners and kids, tied at 71 percent.
Despite their efforts to keep their snacks hidden, only 6 percent of respondents had never been caught. Popular hiding spots had included behind the washing machine or books on a bookshelf.
Despite hiding snacks being a common pastime, not all surveyed had classed themselves as “snackers.” Of the 71 percent who had admitted to being frequent snackers, most had believed they could survive nearly five full months on their snack stockpile alone.
The video, viewed more than 2 million times, has prompted more than 600 comments. Some shared their own stories of hidden food habits, like Sharni, who wrote: “I went to hide my uber eats bag and found my partners hidden uber eats bag in the same spot.”
Kassie posted: “So glad I’m not the only one who does this.”
Other viewers couldn’t get enough of the back and forth. Bubah commented: “This is the funniest I’ve watched it like 5 times already.”
Khaos added: “The lid opening and closing with swiftness took me out.”
Some viewers even commented on the sweet relationship between the poster and her partner. Mozzie wrote, “I think this is the cutest thing,” while Jade posted: “This is so cute tho.”
