He is back; and he is not mincing his words.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has announced his comeback on Tuesday in a dramatic manner.
“Dear progressive liberal media and opposition, sorry to have survived, but I am back,” Fico posted on Facebook, alongside a photo of him sitting at a desk, perched with apparent ease, his gaze intent on the viewer.
Fico was shot multiple times on May 15 in an assassination attempt. He’s spent the past two months recovering from his injuries.
The Slovak premier on Tuesday attended his first parliamentary meeting since the attack. Last Friday, he also made his first public appearance, giving a speech in which he railed against progressive ideologies and praised this week’s visits by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Kyiv and Moscow.
On Monday, Fico visited a field, attending a photo shoot in the rye harvest and reiterating that Slovakia will continue banning the import of certain agricultural commodities from Ukraine.
“We will not fall for fashion trends and we will not give in when it comes to imports of agricultural products from Ukraine. It is still true that there is a certain list, we call it a sanctions list, of certain products that we do not intend to import from Ukraine,” he said.
