Parents have been singing lullabies to their children since time began, but one couple went viral this week for adding their own twist in an effort to soothe their baby to sleep.
Cloe French, 29, was about to lay baby Bonnie down in her crib for the night after falling asleep on her chest, but to her surprise, Bonnie was wide awake again as soon as she set her down.
Instead of picking her up again for a soothing cuddle, French turned to her usual fail-safe lullaby—You Are My Sunshine—when suddenly, partner Tom chimed in and started adding his own parts to the song, unaware that French was trying to get Bonnie back to sleep.
“This sort of thing is a regular occurrence in our home, we are always rapping to each other, making up our own songs and just being a bit silly,” the mom of one told Newsweek.
French, from South Wales, continued with her melody but couldn’t keep her composure when Tom added lines such as “baby girl” and “Luda!”—a reference to rapper Ludacris.
“I could not hold my laughter in any longer, it was just too funny,” French told Newsweek.
Recording the video on her Nokia 3310, baby Bonnie is seen cooing in her cot when she hears her dad joining in on the duet.
The comments section on the video was littered with crying-laughter emojis, with TikTok users finding Tom’s comical additions “amazing.”
One commented: “This new generation of parents I love them” and another said: “Your partner was like it’s time for the remix.”
Meanwhile another admired French’s relationship and said: “The type of relationship I want,” to which she replied: “I was 28 when I found him, it took a lot of physical searching (he was 200 miles away) and soul searching…but it’s definitely out there.”
The most-liked comment joked: “It’s giving mysterious girl x factor.”
At the end of the video, which has been viewed almost five million times, French asks Tom, “How am I supposed to sing her to sleep when you’re doing that?”.
French told Newsweek: “He didn’t realize what I was doing and joked that my singing would give her nightmares!
“After I saved the video, I carried on singing the same song over and over again until Bonnie finally gave in and went to sleep.
“She usually loves that song; I think dad’s added rap woke her up again. She enjoys a family concert!”.
