Anyone who has listened to Taylor Swift’s discography knows that she’s nothing if not honest, sometimes to a heartbreakingly specific degree (for example, “So Long, London” and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”). But Jason Sudeikis asked her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, about making her the other kind of honest woman, if you catch his drift.
And, naturally, he did this in the presence of a million billion smartphones, on a microphone.
Kelce and Sudeikis participated in a sketch at the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend, a Kansas City charity event, on Saturday. The two took the stage alongside George Wendt and Robert Smigel to reprise the classic “Bill Swerski’s Superfans” Saturday Night Live sketch, with Kelce playing himself and the trio playing Chicago-accented superfan commentators.
Chomping on a cigar, in character, Sudeikis can be seen on a fan-captured video asking Kelce the question about asking the question.
“Hey Travis, real talk, OK, just the guys here,” he said. “When are you going to make an honest woman out of her?”
He continued: “Look, Taylor doesn’t need to be working anymore.”
For his part, Kelce kept his lips zipped, but laughed along with the crowd, offering some quality chin-rubbing while he waited out the audience reaction.
“I know your kicker agrees with me,” Sudeikis couldn’t help but add, nodding toward Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s controversial recent Benedictine College commencement speech, which was criticized for implying that women’s highest aspirations were marriage and motherhood.
Finally, a smiling Kelce responded, but not with the specifics of time, location, and method of proposal that some may have been hoping for. “Guys, you’re really pushing it,” he said.
Representatives for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce did not immediately respond to Vanity Fair’s request for comment.
