EXCLUSIVE: Here’s a nice one. Emmy nominee Adam Scott (Severance) is set to star in and direct his first feature, Double Booked, alongside Oscar nominee Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), and Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus).
Protagonist Pictures is launching international sales at the upcoming Cannes market with UTA Independent Film Group and CAA co-repping North America.
Double Booked follows a successful self-help writer (Scott) and his heavily pregnant wife (Beetz) who organize a weekend away at a secluded lodge, only to encounter another couple (Brown and Daddario) at their cabin when they arrive. With a blizzard moving in they are forced to spend the night together, and what seems like an innocent system error turns into a chilling battle of deceit with deadly consequences.
The project is written by David Levinson (Welcome Home), and produced by Adam Goodman (Juror # 2) and Matt Skiena (Juror #2) for Dichotomy Creative Group, and Adam Scott and Naomi Scott for Great Scott Productions.
“Double Booked is a taut, edge of your seat revenge thriller full of twists and turns that ratchets up the tension scene by scene,” said Protagonist CEO Dave Bishop. “Adam has assembled a truly stellar cast to bring his vision to life and his fresh take on a beloved genre will resonate with audiences around the world. It’s the perfect addition to our Cannes slate.”
“I couldn’t be more excited to be working with Protagonist and Dichotomy to bring this audacious, crowd-pleasing, white knuckle thriller to the screen,” added Scott. “I’d been looking for something to direct for years, and Double Booked checked all the boxes. Along with our unbelievable cast, I can’t wait to make it and share it with the world.”
Scott currently stars in the hit AppleTV+ series Severance, for which he received an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination. He also starred in the seminal NBC series Parks and Recreation, HBO’s Big Little Lies, and The Good Place.
Three-time Emmy winner Sterling K. Brown most recently starred in Amazon/MGM’s American Fiction and is currently in production on the Hulu drama series Paradise City. For six years he starred on NBC’s This Is Us, for which he won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, as well as a Golden Globe, becoming the first African American actor to win his category in the award show’s 75-year history.
Beetz rose to fame in Donald Glover’s award-winning comedy-drama series Atlanta. She is also known for 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2, starring Ryan Reynolds, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Joker with Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro, and its upcoming sequel Joker: Folie a Deux.
Daddario is best known for her Emmy-nominated role in HBO’s hit series The White Lotus. Up next, she will reprise her role as Rowan in the second season of AMC’s Mayfair Witches. Past credits include Warner Bros. Pictures’ San Andreas opposite Dwayne Johnson, and Paramount Pictures’ Baywatch, opposite Johnson and Zac Efron.
