Victoria Beckham has somehow hit the half-century mark, and her husband, soccer icon David Beckham, celebrated her fiftieth birthday with a photo montage video that included both never-before-seen throwback pics and what we believe the Brits would call “a bit of cheek.” He shared the creation, which begins with an old video of the couple’s eldest children, Brooklyn and Romeo, wishing their mother a happy birthday way back when, on Instagram Wednesday morning.

The tribute includes baby pictures of Victoria, pictures of Victoria with her own babies, pictures of Victoria when she hung out with Baby Spice (during her years as part of the Spice Girls), and more. David, 48, also couldn’t resist a gentle roasting of his wife, putting the now-infamous and much-memed “be honest” audio from the recent Netflix documentary about the couple, Beckham, alongside a pic of young Victoria in front of her father’s Rolls-Royce. In the doc, Victoria describes herself as growing up “ working class,” and David crashed the interview and provided a fact-check, reminding her of the luxury vehicle that carted her to school. Posh Spice, indeed.
In the caption to his birthday post, David urges his wife to “look back and be proud of what you have accomplished, achieved, and what you have built.” Among those accomplishments? “Of course, marrying an England captain.”
“But your biggest success are your children, you guide them, love them, and teach them,” he continued. “They love you beyond words, we all love you so much.”
He wrapped up his message by calling his wife both “50 and fit,” and capped it off with just one more nod to the Rolls: “I AM BEING HONEST.”
While David dug into the family’s archive and showed off some personal photos for the first time, a new book promises to share even more tidbits about the family. The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power, written by journalist Tom Bower, is due out June 25 from HarperCollins.
In a press release, Bower, who has previously written investigative books about both King Charles III and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, said that through research and insider interviews, he plans to lend readers “surprising insight” into “Brand Beckham” and all it entails.
“When I started researching the Beckhams for the book, I was sure that an in-depth account of their lives would be a hugely entertaining and revealing read, but even I was surprised to discover such a compelling, previously untold story,” he said.
The book, he said, seeks to answer the question, “Are their lives really as perfect as the Beckhams would like the world to believe?”
In a comment to the Mirror, Bower said that the book will delve into the couple’s personal relationship as well as their business interests and image management. So will we hear anything about David’s alleged affairs and the early-aughts time period that led Victoria to say that 2003 was “the most unhappy” she’d ever been?
“Those who want to know about Beckham’s sex life won’t be disappointed,” Bower said.
