Netflix has released information on two Spanish features it has punished into production including the political thriller Un Fantasma En La Batalla produced by Society Of Snow filmmaker J.A. Bayona.
Directed by Agustín Díaz Yanes, the film stars Susana Abaitua, Andrés Gertrúdix, Iraia Elias, Raúl Arévalo, and Ariadna Gil. Producing along Bayona are Belén Atienza and Sandra Hermida.
The film’s synopsis reads: Inspired by the lives and experiences of several members of the Guardia Civil directly involved in the fight against terrorism and grounded in the historical, political, and social context of the 1990s and 2000s, Un fantasma en la Batalla tells the story of Amaia, a young civil guard who spends more than a decade working as an undercover agent within ETA, with the aim of locating the band’s hideouts in the South of France.
“Agustín Díaz Yanes is not only one of the most important figures in Spanish cinema but also an exceptional witness to the recent history of our country,” said Bayona.
“From our first conversations about Un fantasma en la batalla, I was amazed by his profound knowledge of the events that his script relates. I am looking forward to Spanish cinema once again enjoying one of its best directors, who solidly and passionately faces the challenge of tackling such a delicate, complex, and transcendent subject as the Basque armed conflict.”
Today Netflix also announced La Desconocida, written by journalist and author Rosa Montero. The film’s synopsis reads: An unconscious woman is found by police in a container located in the Barcelona docks. Unable to speak or even remember her identity, she is taken to hospital, where an attempt is made on her life. Inspector Anna Ripoll, expert in human trafficking, is assigned to investigate the mysterious case with French police officer Zapori, and together, they will unravel the investigation.
