Wimbledon concluded over the weekend when Jannik Sinner mounted a stunning comeback to win his fifth Grand Slam title and Linda Nosková triumphed to win her first.
But the players, outfitted in their whites, were also unwittingly competing for top fashion moment. The tournament saw strong contenders in Naomi Osaka, the Japanese tennis star, whose elaborate style can be viewed as more ornamental than functional, and Taylor Fritz, the American competitor, who stepped before fans in a white suit made custom by Boss, one of his sponsors.
The fashion fervor did not stay on the court. While Wimbledon does not have a formal dress code for spectators, smart dress, the kind that straddles casual weekend attire with formal wear, is encouraged. The stars in attendance dressed to cheer on their favorite athletes. Here are some of the looks that stood out.
Emma Corrin
To attend Ralph Lauren’s suite at Wimbledon, the actor opted for cream trousers pooling at the heels, a navy shirt and tie and a red slouchy sweater — an ensemble that seemed to take inspiration from the colors of the British Union Jack flag.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas
Priyanka Chopra Jonas is a mainstay at Wimbledon. On the 11th day of this year’s tournament, the actor wore a taupe shirt dress with a tie at the waist and a matching head scarf. Her accessory: a video call to her husband, Nick Jonas, who was not in attendance, to show him a bit of the tennis.
Catherine, Princess of Wales
The princess attended the women’s singles final in a bright red skirt suit with a peplum top and a waist-defining belt by Roland Mouret.
Little Simz
The rapper Simbiatu Abisola Abiola Ajikawo, also known by her stage name Little Simz, opted for a black-and-white ensemble for the tournament, wearing a voluminous skirt with a bubble hem, a crisp white shirt, a leather waistcoat and a perfectly perched beret.
Bhavitha Mandava
Bhavitha Mandava, the New York University graduate student turned Chanel model, rose to prominence last year when she appeared in some of the Chanel creative director Matthieu Blazy’s early shows. For Wimbledon, she stayed loyal to the brand in a cream slip dress with elaborate embroidery.
Barry Can’t Swim
Joshua Spence Mainnie, the Scottish music producer and D.J., known as Barry Can’t Swim, eschewed the formal jacket-and-tie look that often dominates Wimbledon stands. Instead, he wore roomy trousers with an even roomier yellow button-down shirt.
Michaela Coel
The actor and director Michaela Coel, in cream trousers with a pinstripe double-breasted blazer by Ralph Lauren, displays her rare ability to turn any look into something extravagant and eye-catching.
Ncuti Gatwa
Ncuti Gatwa, the Scottish actor, also opted for a double-breasted suit — gray with a mauve tie — and two-toned loafers.
Yerin Ha
The Australian actor known for her lead role in the latest season of “Bridgerton” sported a blush pink and green striped skirt suit with frayed edges by Thom Browne. (A nod to the tournament’s signature purple and green stripes, perhaps?) She completed the look with fashion faux pas turned masterstroke: socks with heels.
Olivia Cooke
The English actor, who plays one of the central characters in “House of the Dragon,” made the rounds in a silver pencil skirt, a glossy beige blouse and her flowing red hair.
