Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are celebrating in style following another Wrexham promotion to a better league.
Reynolds co-owns the club with fellow actor McElhenney. The team secured promotion to League Two last year. Now, a 6-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers on Saturday means they will play in League One next season.
On X, formerly Twitter, Reynolds wrote: “A few years ago, if you told me I would be crying tears of joy over a football match taking place in North Wales, you would be Rob McElhenney. Congrats to Wrexham and to my co-chairman in crime. Double up the town! This is the ride of our lives.”
He later posted a celebration of McElhenny’s birthday, allegedly underwriting a trip to the Titanic to grab a few bottles of Wrexham Lager for a toast. See the results below.
Since McElhenney and Reynolds’ bought the team in February 2021, they have boosted its worldwide attention. The FX documentary show Welcome To Wrexham, which has had two seasons with a third series to air in May, has earned five Emmys, including outstanding unstructured reality program.
It felt like Rob’s birthday was today but apparently it’s tomorrow? I am posting now because it’s April 14th in Wrexham and I’ll bet people are still up! Happy Birthday, @RMcElhenney, and LFG, @Wrexham_AFC!!! Thanks to @Vistaprint & @TyPawb pic.twitter.com/BuvyttqBuL
