Robert De Niro and girlfriend Tiffany Chen, who recently marked the first birthday of their daughter Gia, stepped out for a date night Wednesday evening at an extraordinary venue: The White House.
The two were guests at a state dinner hosted by President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden in honor of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kushida and his wife, Yuko Kishida. Chen, 45, wore a white floor-length gown, black heels, and an off-white shawl with black trim, while De Niro, 80, opted for a classic black tuxedo, white shirt, and wide black necktie. The couple were photographed holding hands and smiling as they entered the event, which was decorated with fan and koi pond imagery, and featured blooms native to both the United States and Japan, as well as a spring-themed menu with dishes from both.
They weren’t the only prominent couple to wine and dine with the Bidens: Jeff Bezos and fiancée Lauren Sánchez also donned their black tie finery for the event. Bezos, too, wore a black tux, though he paired it with a black silk bow tie, unlike De Niro. Sánchez turned heads at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in a crimson gown by Rasario, which featured a red lace corset-style bodice and a silk floor-length skirt.
Around 200 guests filled out the roster for Wednesday’s dinner, including government dignitaries and prominent figures such as Japanese-American Olympic figure skating gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi, Apple CEO Tim Cook, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and more. Paul Simon pulled double duty, acting as both attendee and entertainment: The “Bridge Over Troubled Water” musician performed during the reception.
