Before Horizon: An American Saga hits theaters this summer, Kevin Costner‘s latest venture will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. The upcoming two-part Western has secured a spot in the festival’s coveted lineup, with May 19 marking its world premiere, per Variety.
According to the outlet, the director and Yellowstone star released a statement, “thank[ing] the Festival de Cannes for including [his] film Horizon, An American Saga in this year’s selection,” and noting that “it’s been 20 years since [he’s] had the pleasure of being on the Croisette.”
“I’ve been waiting for the right time to return and I’m proud to say that this time has come,” he continued. “Horizon, An American Saga is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can’t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have always supported films and believed deeply in filmmaking. Just as I believe deeply in my film.”
As fans learned in October, Horizon Chapter 1 will make its theatrical debut on June 28, followed by Horizon: Chapter 2 on Aug. 16. Horizon will be joined by fellow Warner Bros. production Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which debuts at Cannes on May 15 ahead of its May 24 theatrical release date.
Among Costner’s castmates are Sienna Miller, Jena Malone, Sam Worthington, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman and Jamie Campbell Bower.
As for whether or not he will return as John Dutton in the the second half of Yellowstone‘s fifth and final installment, a March 25 Puck report teased that Costner reportedly “has been telling people he’s planning to return for at least a cameo and possibly more, but there are currently no discussions for him to do that.”
