Chaotic video shows moment truck carrying concrete causes carnage on busy highway

The shocking moment a truck carrying concrete slabs causes utter carnage on one of South Australia’s busiest roads has been caught on camera.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, on the North-South Motorway at Bolivar in Adelaide’s outer northern suburbs, a HGV carrying several heavy slabs was merging lanes when part of its load suddenly slid off the back of the vehicle.

Two 15-ton slabs were sent slamming onto the road in a huge cloud of dust, before colliding with three parked cars on the hard shoulder.

The impact sent the cars flying, colliding with two people who had stopped at the side of the road to deal with a vehicle breakdown.

Miraculously, none of the people involved suffered life-threatening injuries, with one taken to the hospital with a suspected broken arm and two suffering minor injuries.

The chaotic scene resulted in huge queues of traffic while the wreckage was cleared and the vehicles recovered.

A driver who was traveling in the opposite direction around half an hour after the incident estimated the traffic was well over half a mile long as emergency services dealt with the scene.

A spokesman for SA Police said investigations into the crash were still ongoing.

“Police are amazed that no one was killed during this incident,” a statement reads.

“This incident serves as a reminder that all road users have a responsibility to help keep South Australian roads safe.

“Motorists should allow heavy vehicles the space and stopping distance they need, and drivers transporting loads must ensure they are properly secured before commencing their journey.”
