Vice President J.D. Vance has been called out for a speech — the one the White House accidentally dubbed as “dumb” — by a fact-checker who argued it was something much worse.
The Daily Beast’s Michael Daly argued Friday morning that Vance’s recent speech about convicted fraudster Markita Barnes was also deeply misleading.
“He went beyond a lie to transposing the facts, as fraudsters are wont to do,” Daly wrote. “Without actually naming them, he said the Republicans were being tough on fraud while the Democrats were abetting it.”
Daly focused on Vance’s commentary in Milwaukee on a government-funded prenatal healthcare program for at-risk mothers that included heaps of praise for himself and his party.
“Vance himself preceded this shameless transposing by talking about his family,” wrote Daly.
While Vance correctly stated the facts of the case, he tried to take credit for an indictment that occurred while President Joe Biden was in office.
Daly Trump fired the U.S. attorney, Gregory Haanstad, who brought the case.
Additionally, Vance skated over the fact that Trump has pardoned well-connected Medicare fraudsters, Daly wrote.
“It looked like he faceplanted on stage,” Daly wrote. “It was even worse than that.”
