MAGA Republican who claimed to have killed people as a child wins Colorado GOP primary

The Republican gubernatorial candidate who claimed to have killed people as a child won his primary, according to the Denver Post.

Victor Marx, whom veteran journalist Kyle Clark once described as a “cross between Rambo and Billy Graham,” won the GOP primary for Colorado’s gubernatorial race after a close race against state Sen. Barbara Kirkmeyer, who was briefly in the lead.

During an interview with Clark, Marx claimed that his stepfather had him kill a man, that he called in an airstrike as a civilian that killed 70 ISIS fighters, and that he killed others as a “high-risk missionary,” as he’s described his role. When Clark pressed him to reveal how many people he had killed, Marx retorted, “Does it matter?” which was widely mocked.

The race between Kirkmeyer and Marx was so close that it took about a week for a clear winner to be called. The Denver Post and Colorado Public Radio finally called the race in his favor on Thursday. He won with about 39.9 percent of the vote, squeaking by Kirkmeyer, who had 39.4 percent, according to NBC News.

Marx will have to go up against Democrat Phil Weiser, the Colorado attorney general, who beat out Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO). Bennet will keep his Senate seat alongside Democratic Sen. John Hickenlooper, who won his Senate primary as well.

Kirkmeyer notably led an effort as a county commissioner to have northern Colorado secede and become the 51st state. Both beat fellow GOP gubernatorial candidate Scott Bottoms by a large margin.
