How much money is Trump making off his presidency?

This story appeared in The Logoff, a daily newsletter that helps you stay informed about the Trump administration without letting political news take over your life. Subscribe here.

Welcome to The Logoff: Donald Trump is making big bucks off of the presidency.

What’s happening? The president’s profiteering isn’t new, but financial disclosures released last night shed new light on exactly how much money Trump is making in office. The total for 2025: $2.2 billion, almost four times as much as the $622 million in revenue he reported in 2024.

That total includes more than $1.4 billion from two Trump family cryptocurrency projects — one of which is World Liberty Financial, which is 49 percent owned by the royal family of the United Arab Emirates. (That stake was purchased secretly just days before Trump’s 2025 inauguration, as the Wall Street Journal has reported, and shortly afterward, the Trump administration granted the UAE access to advanced AI chips.)

What’s the context? As astonishing as that number is, it doesn’t quite capture the full scope of Trump’s graft. Since last year, the New Yorker’s David D. Kirkpatrick has been keeping close track of all the president’s self-enrichment schemes — plus those by his immediate family, from his sons Don Jr. and Eric Trump to his son-in-law (and Middle East peace negotiator) Jared Kushner.

As of the end of January 2026, according to Kirkpatrick, the full Trump family total stands closer to $4.05 billion, including things like the private club Don Jr. co-owns and the luxury jet Qatar handed over for use as Air Force One (which is set to go with Trump after he leaves office, for his presidential library and potentially his personal use).

What else should I know? In addition to enriching himself and his family directly, Trump has spent much of his second term as president using the government, and US tax dollars, as a piggy bank for his personal projects. That includes more than a million dollars in national parks fees put toward purely aesthetic renovations at the White House — which he said he would pay for himself.

And with that, it’s time to log off…

It is, somehow, already July, so today I wanted to share a gift link to my colleague Allie Volpe’s advice on how to think about your summer if you’re already pre-grieving its end. (It also gives me a chance to share this Calvin & Hobbes strip about the same subject, which captures my real feelings.)

Plus, a World Cup thing: It’s match day for the USA! If they win tonight, all three host teams will go through to the round of 16. Here’s what the celebration looked like in Mexico City last night after they defeated Ecuador to qualify.

Have a great evening, and we’ll see you back here tomorrow!
