President Donald Trump’s military airshow over the National Mall is already snarling flights at Reagan National Airport, where the Federal Aviation Administration issued a ground delay program with delays up to 67 minutes.
The advisory covers the period from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m., with an average delay of 24 minutes. The advisory flagged the impacting condition as “air show” and noted “zero reserves” — meaning no slack capacity — during the peak window.
FlightAware was already showing 24-minute inbound delays before the formal window even opened.
“DCA is going to be fun through the fourth,” Punchbowl News co-founder Jake Sherman wrote on X, quoting aviation journalist Andrew Leyden’s earlier alert.
Thursday’s ground delay program is the first of its kind tied to Trump’s White House-backed Great American State Fair, which opened on the National Mall Wednesday night. A B-2 stealth bomber and F-35s thundered over Washington for the kickoff — and the flyovers continue daily through July 10.
Reagan National’s own website specifically flagged Thursday as a disruption day, warning passengers to expect flight holds tied to National Mall flyovers.
The airport authority has already flagged Military Appreciation Day on Sunday, June 28, as the next round of disruptions.
The Washington Post reported DCA will have no flights after noon on July 4.
