Pro-Israel Group Pushes for Haley Stevens in Michigan Senate Race

The country’s most powerful pro-Israel group, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, is jumping into the intense Democratic primary race for Senate in Michigan.

The group’s main super PAC, the United Democracy Project, on Tuesday released its first round of ads backing Representative Haley Stevens, a moderate lawmaker who is in a three-way fight before the August primary.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the super PAC had reserved about $2.3 million in ads, according to the media tracking firm AdImpact. It is the super PAC’s first disclosed involvement in a Senate race in the 2026 election cycle.

Big money is arriving for other candidates, too. One of Ms. Stevens’s rivals, Mallory McMorrow, a state senator, is also set to benefit from the first spending for her from an outside group. On Tuesday, a nonprofit group that appears to be aligned with her, Yes MI Action Committee, reserved $4.9 million in advertising time, according to AdImpact data.

Ms. Stevens and Ms. McMorrow are vying against Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a progressive former public health official, in a contentious primary ahead of what is expected to be one of the most competitive Senate races this fall. Democrats are aiming to hold onto the seat of the retiring Senator Gary Peters, while Republicans are hoping to elect Representative Mike Rogers, who is running unopposed in his primary.

The United Democracy Project began the year with $96 million, making it one of the best-funded super PACs in the country. The group has already spent millions in several Democratic primaries, including House races in New Jersey and Illinois.

The Michigan advertisements include three television spots that focus on Ms. Stevens’s work with former President Barack Obama’s auto rescue plans. A spokesman for the super PAC said it would also release radio ads and send mail to voters with a similar focus.

While AIPAC is squarely focused on support for Israel, none of the advertisements in any of the races have mentioned the Jewish state.

Ms. Stevens has been a vocal supporter of Israel in the past. In her previous campaigns for Congress, AIPAC supported her by directing donors to her through its fund-raising website. She is the only Democrat in the Michigan race who supports continued sales of American weapons to Israel’s military.

The New York Times reported last week that Senator Chuck Schumer, the Democratic minority leader, had asked party donors to support Ms. Stevens, whom he viewed as the strongest general-election candidate.

Even before the AIPAC-tied group became involved in the race, Ms. Stevens was slated to benefit from more than $10 million in advertising from other outside groups, according to AdImpact data.
