Olivia Rodrigo addresses rumored Taylor Swift feud after years of speculation

Olivia Rodrigo is done clearing things up when it comes to her rumored feud with Taylor Swift.

“I don’t really read that far into it,” Rodrigo, 23, told the New York Times’ “Popcast”of the internet speculation on Friday.

“I think it comes with the territory, and it’s par for the course. I think if I dove into every internet detective sleuth that got things right or wrong about my life or any of my relationships, I think I’d just go crazy. There’s just not enough time in the day.”

Swift was, at first, a very vocal supporter of Rodrigo when she first rose to fame with her single, “Driver’s License.”

In 2021, the “Cruel Summer” hitmaker took to Instagram to publicly declare her support for the young star as she shared a screenshot showing that “Driver’s License” had earned the No. 3 spot on the iTunes charts — right below two of her “Evermore” songs.

“I say that’s my baby and I’m really proud,” she said at the time of Rodrigo’s feat, according to “Today.”

Rodrigo even named Swift, 36, as one of her inspirations, saying she looked up to her in a 2021 SiriusXM interview.

As a response to Swift’s support, Rodrigo called the pop star the “kindest individual in the whole world.”

“I feel so lucky that I was born at the right time to be able to look up to someone like her,” Rodrigo added. “I think she’s incredible and all of her support and genuine compassion and excitement for me has just been so, so surreal.”

However, it’s believed that the stars started experiencing friction after Rodrigo gave Swift and her producers Jack Antonoff and St. Vincenta a delayed writing credit on her song, “Dejà Vu” which is featured on her debut album, “Sour.” Swift already had a writing credit for Rodrigo’s song, “1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back” which featured an interpolation of Swift’s song, “New Year’s Day.”

The “good 4 u” singer admitted in 2021 that she drew inspiration from Swift’s “Cruel Summer” for the track’s bridge.

“But I wanted the last bridge to go crazy and I love ‘Cruel Summer,’ it’s one of my favorite songs ever,” she told Rolling Stone’s “The Breakdown.”

“I love the yell-y vocals in it, the harmonized yells that she does. I feel like they’re super electric and moving, and so I wanted to do something like that.”

When Rodrigo released her sophomore studio album, “Guts,” fans speculated that Swift may have been the face behind songs like “Vampire” and “The Grudge.”

Rodrigo addressed the speculation in her 2023 interview with The Guardian.

“I was very surprised when people thought that,” she said. “I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.”

She also shut down feud rumors in her 2023 Rolling Stone cover story.

“I don’t have beef with anyone,” Rodrigo said. “I’m very chill. I keep to myself. I have my four friends and my mom, and that’s really the only people I talk to, ever. There’s nothing to say.”
