Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel ridiculed President Donald Trump’s “Freedom 250 Festival,” a celebration scheduled at the National Mall from June 27 to July 10 and advertised as a nonpartisan commemoration of America’s 250th birthday.
The event has suffered significant withdrawals as major artists claim they were misled about its political nature.
Country star Martina McBride, The Commodores, Young MC, and Morris Day & The Time all withdrew, with McBride stating the nonpartisan framing turned out to be misleading.
Kimmel described the remaining lineup, headlined by Flo Rida, Vanilla Ice, and Bret Michaels, as, “Coachella for bands that hired their cousin as their tour manager.”
The event faces additional complications with Milli Vanilli scheduled to perform despite one frontman being deceased and the actual vocalists claiming no involvement.
Trump allies, including Richard Grenell and Fox News host Todd Starnes, responded defensively to artist departures.
