Movie studios circling legendary editor Jane Pratt’s memoir

Sassy: The Movie?

Page Six hears that — weeks after we broke the news that legendary editor Jane Pratt had sold her memoir — two major studios are already circling the book for an adaptation.

We’re told that Tinseltown execs, perhaps unsurprisingly, think her star-studded, rock ‘n’ roll-soundtracked tale of a woman’s rise to the top of the cut-throat world of New York journalism has what it takes for the big screen. And Pratt is entertaining offers.

Pratt founded Sassy in 1988, during the rise of the grunge and indie scenes, covering bands like Hole, R.E.M, Bikini Kill, the Lemonheads and more, and befriending many of their famed members, including Courtney Love and Michael Stipe.

She went on to found Jane magazine, and after it was bought by America’s most famous publishing house, Condé Nast, she jostled with superstar editors including Anna Wintour, Tina Brown and Graydon Carter.

So there’s plenty of obvious cinematic fodder.

In fact, it’s not the first book about Pratt to catch Hollywood’s eye. We’re told a former assistant, Karen Yampolsky, wrote a roman à clef about Pratt, “Falling Out of Fashion,” which was published in 2008 and quickly optioned by Hilary Swank. (It never made it to celluloid).

Perhaps the recent release of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” — the second installment of a book based on Wintour, which did $320 million at the box off in its first week — has goosed interested in another power journo biopic.

We’re told there was a bidding war for the rights to the book, which we reported sold for more than $500,000. (According to Publishers’ Marketplace, the buyer was Random House and the tome will be called, “It Happened To Me.”)
