Anderson Cooper criticized CBS News head Bari Weiss during his “60 Minutes” exit interview published Sunday.
According to media watchdog Status, Weiss was not given advance notice of Cooper’s remarks.
In the interview, Cooper stressed how “independence” and viewer trust are “crucial” to the program, emphasizing leadership “requires an appreciation of the history and the sacrifices and the hard work of the people here.”
Cooper also hopes “60 Minutes remains 60 Minutes,” aware that Weiss plans to overhaul the program.
Sources report Weiss was “furious” over the public criticism, particularly because Cooper used the CBS News platform itself to deliver the rebuke. The situation proved humiliating for Weiss, who had personally attempted to expand Cooper’s presence at the network before he declined.
