Arizona State student vanishes during Grand Canyon trip

An Arizona State University student vanished on a trip to the Grand Canyon 10 days ago — failing to return in time to take his finals and attend an interview for a job he wanted.

Sandarsh Krishna, 26, was last heard from on April 27 when he said he was heading to Las Vegas and stopping at the Grand Canyon’s South Rim.

He never returned to campus, where this week he was due to take his finals and have a job interview.

“He’s not the kind of kid who would hurt himself,” Krishna’s brother told KPNX-TV, who said he still holding out Krishna, “he’s still out there somewhere.”

“They’re doing the best they can, but unfortunately, we do not have the exact location to see where he went missing. The cell phone data has not moved since Tuesday,” Pooja Shivananjappa, Krishna’s sister-in-law, told Fox 10 Phoenix.

His last known location is along the Rim Trail of Hermit Road, according to the National Parks Service, which is leading the investigation.

Park officials, who have shared little information on the case, have said they believe Krishna was traveling by taxi or Uber.

The service is seeking to identify a man who turned in Krishna’s black backpack at Bright Angel Lodge the morning after he went missing — while stressing he is not considered a suspect.

“The reason why finding the guy would be extremely helpful. So we can gain more information as to where the backpack was found. That way we can focus on that specific area,” Shivananjappa said.

Krishna moved to Tempe, Arizona, in 2024 to pursue a master’s degree in computer science at ASU.

He was set to get his diploma on Saturday.

Krishna is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall with a thin build, approximately 160 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes.

He was last seen wearing athletic clothing.
