Florida driver late for wedding caught speeding at 101 mph and thrown in jail

Hope he’s not the best man.

A Florida driver was busted after police allegedly clocked him hurling down a local highway at more than 100 mph — claiming he was late for a wedding.

Christopher Jones, 29, was caught driving at the alarming speed of 101 mph on I-95 in Brevard County last Saturday when Sheriff’s Deputy Caleb Sanchez was conducting a speed enforcement around 9 a.m., the local sheriff’s office said.

Sanchez pulled over and arrested Jones, who was then transferred to Brevard County Jail.

The “super speeder” was charged with operating a vehicle above 100 mph, a misdemeanor that carries up to 30 days in jail, $500 in fines, and potentially a license suspension in Florida.

The sharply-dressed driver said he was heading to a wedding and was running late, the sheriff said.

“Christopher Jones was dressed to impress as he was on his way to a wedding and of course, was running late!!” the Brevard County Sheriff’s office wrote in an Instagram post.

The sheriff poked fun at Jones, suggesting that “the only party Jones was going to attend was at Ivey’s Iron Bar Lodge, and from what we’ve heard, it’s a real bore!!”

“Great job by Deputy Sanchez for helping keep Brevard county safe and we’ll see ya next time (because we know there will be another one) on Super Speeder Saturday!!” the statement continued.

Speeding and aggressive driving caused 38,851 crashes in 2023, according to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
