A MAGA Republican was brutally mocked on Sunday after she told “disgusting lies” about President Donald Trump’s scheme to punish a prominent nonprofit.
Last week, the Trump Department of Justice secured an indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center, alleging the nonprofit committed 11 counts of wire and bank fraud for its work to infiltrate and disrupt right-wing extremist groups. The indictment alleges that the SPLC did not tell its donor about the way it used their money, a claim that the nonprofit has forcibly denied.
During a recent podcast interview, Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) claimed that the SPLC “funded and organized” the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, a rally that left one protester, Heather Heyer, dead after a MAGA participant ran her over with a car.
“They paid the guy who did that $270,000,” Hageman said. “The organizer of that event, the one that has been the basis for screaming that Donald Trump is a racist because he allegedly said there are good people on both sides.”
Political analysts and observers called out Hageman for her “disgusting lies” on social media.
“Just disgusting lies,” Fred Wellman, a Democratic candidate for office in Missouri, posted on X. “My son-in-law was a National Guardsman scared for his life, and it was the Nazis and racists that organized it. What a disgusting woman.”
“This is the genius who replaced Liz Cheney in Congress,” David Gaines, a composer, posted on X.
“That Wyoming picked this lunatic Cultist instead of Liz Cheney is an embarrassment to decency,” Norman Ornstein, a political scientist, posted on X.
