Trump sidelines GOP Senate candidate after Elon Musk spends $10 million boosting him

President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will be giving an administration job to a key Kentucky Republican Senate candidate — effectively sidelining him from the race, after tech billionaire Elon Musk spent $10 million supporting his candidacy.

The president also teased that he would make an endorsement soon in that race.

“I had a great meeting with Mr. Nate Morris, of Kentucky, yesterday,” said Trump on his Truth Social platform. “Nate is a terrific businessman and strong MAGA Warrior. I will be making an Endorsement for U.S. Senate in Kentucky shortly, but I’ve asked Nate to step aside from that Race to take a role in my Administration as an Ambassador. Nate is Oxford educated, tough as nails, LOVES our Great Nation, and will represent the United States very well, overseas, or otherwise. He has a great future in politics, or anything else he chooses to do.”

“We will be announcing Nate’s new role soon,” Trump continued. “Stay tuned for my important Endorsement for Senate in Kentucky. It will be a big one, and straight from the heart. Republicans must win the Senate!”

Morris, a wealthy businessman who runs a waste and recycling company, ran by attacking outgoing Sen. Mitch McConnell, who, despite leading the Senate Republican caucus for years, has largely fallen out with Trump and occasionally casts votes against his priorities in the Senate.

Musk, likewise, had a bitter feud with the president after spending big to get him elected and helping shape his Department of Government Efficiency project. That feud has since cooled off, but the two still appear to be fairly distant,
