Rosie O’Donnell considers return to New York from Dublin after celebrating blue wave of midterm election wins

Rosie O’Donnell dabbled in the idea of returning to the States while celebrating the midterm election results.

O’Donnell – a consistent critic of the current administration – fled the United States for Ireland after Donald Trump was elected president for a second term in 2024.

While the former talk show host relished life across the pond, she’s now thinking about moving back home to New York, and told The Washington Post that Dublin is “beautiful — we love it here, but my family’s not here.”

She added, “And I miss my grown kids. I miss my grandson that was born six months ago. And I feel like I’ve missed half his life already and don’t want to miss any more.”

The “A League of Their Own” star has four children with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter, and one child with late ex-wife Michelle Rounds.

O’Donnell chimed in on TikTok to praise the blue wave that hit the States following Tuesday’s midterms, where Democrats won control of the house, in addition to capturing the Senate majority.

“It’s a beautiful morning in the world,” she said. “The Trump regime is over, thank you America. I knew we would do it; I knew it in my heart.”

“You gotta believe people, and you did, and you showed up. And we gave a very loud and clear message to Trump … and his partners in cruelty. His criminal friends – Enough, we’ve had enough.”

O’Donnell noted that she “went to bed early” in Dublin while returns came back on election night in the States.

“I didn’t think I could stay up; I was so anxious,” she said. “I went to bed and at 3 o’clock in the morning – ding, ding, ding, ding – everyone started texting me and I started to cry.”

“I was so overwhelmed with emotion – overwhelmed – and I got up this morning and I took a shower and I put on my blue jumper … and I’m like, I’m wearing blue today.”

O’Donnell said she was “so proud of all of us, of our country” before reflecting on the “unconstitutional, un-American things that this administration has perpetrated on the people of this country and the world.”

“Let the investigations begin, really,” O’Donnell said. “This is a glorious day.”

The White House responded in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying, “Rosie O’Donnell is a nasty woman and a total slob whose brain has been completely destroyed by Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

Earlier this year, O’Donnell wrapped up guest-hosting fellow Trump critic Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, where she called the president “orange Voldemort.”

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here thanks to everyone who’s been watching this week, especially the hungry, hungry hypocrite in the White House,” she said during her final opening monologue.

“Most of all, I’d like to thank Jimmy Kimmel for inviting me to do this and for reminding everyone that we have the right to free speech in this country, whether orange Voldemort likes it or not.”

O’Donnell and the president have traded jabs for years, and Trump threatened to revoke the comedian’s citizenship after she fled to Ireland in 2025.

The decades-long feud stems back to 2006 after O’Donnell criticized him when she was a host on “The View” about his decision to be lenient toward a Miss USA winner who had been accused of drug use and other bad behavior.
