A former Trump administration press secretary scorched Republicans for failing to make the case against socialism during the midterm elections.
Kayleigh McEnany, who served as press secretary during Trump’s first term, delivered the rebuke Tuesday night on Fox News as she discussed the results. Democrats would go on to win control of both the House and the Senate, flipping Senate seats in states including Kansas, North Carolina and Texas, and taking governorships in Texas, Georgia and Ohio.
“I’ll give you this: Republicans failed to make the case against socialism,” McEnany said. “Republicans failed tonight. That’s clear.”
McEnany said future Republican candidates, including potential 2028 contenders like Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, need to make that case far better than this cycle’s candidates did.
“If you can’t make it on a Republican debate stage, you should be nowhere near the stage,” McEnany said.
Her comments came as votes were still being counted in key races, including Senate contests in Michigan and Maine.
