Paul Pelosi, husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, will be prohibited from driving for six months after he was convicted of crashing into a parked car over the summer, prosecutors announced on Tuesday.
Mr. Pelosi, 86, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge and to making an unlawful turn, according to the Napa County District Attorney’s office. In July, he slammed his convertible into a parked car in Yountville, Calif., a small tourist town near Napa known for its many wine tasting rooms and its Michelin-starred restaurant, the French Laundry.
As part of the plea agreement, Mr. Pelosi will be prohibited from driving for six months. He will also be placed on one year of summary probation and has been ordered to complete a 10-day work program, according to the district attorney’s office. He paid court fees as well as more than $11,000 in restitution to the owner of the car that he hit, the office said.
Mr. Pelosi has an erratic driving record that dates back years.
In 2022, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after crashing his Porsche into an oncoming Jeep. He has also received several traffic violations in the San Francisco Bay Area over the past 15 years, including driving the wrong way down a one-way street, speeding and, on more than one occasion, driving through a red light, court records show.
In July, Mr. Pelosi was about 15 minutes from the Pelosis’ Napa Valley estate when he hit a parked Tesla. He then continued driving down a residential street in Napa Valley until his car broke down and law enforcement officers arrived at the scene.
The Tesla was clipped so hard that the rear bumper was smashed in and one of its front wheels climbed the curb, neighbors said.
Mr. Pelosi’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
