Karoline Leavitt, the former Trump administration press secretary, made a startling prediction about a key Senate race during Fox News’ election coverage Tuesday night.
Republicans entered the midterm elections trailing in several key Senate races, from Maine to South Carolina, according to public polling. Leavitt predicted that Democrats would carry that momentum to victory in South Carolina, where incumbent Sen. Darline Graham, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s sister, faced off against Democratic opponent Annie Andrews.
“If it goes in the direction it’s looking, I think it’s unfair to blame Darline,” Leavitt said. “It’s just the environment we are in in this midterm election cycle where clearly the opposition party was fired up, they went out to the polls, and the president was not on the ballot.”
At the time Leavitt made the comments, Andrews held a nearly 85,000-vote lead over Graham with 53% of the vote tallied. About 930,000 votes remained outstanding, according to NBC News.
Jesse Watters, Leavitt’s co-host for the panel, was more curt in his analysis of Graham’s race.
“She choked,” Watters said.
