Hailey Bieber reveals ‘lonely journey’ with health condition following birth of son Jack Blues

Hailey Bieber felt alone battling premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) after giving birth to her son, Jack Blues.

The Rhode founder, 29, spoke about her diagnosis in a recent interview with Women’s Wear Daily. According to the Mayo Clinic, PMDD is a severe extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that causes extreme mood swings.

Behavioral symptoms can include sadness or hopelessness, anxiety, extreme moodiness, irritability and anger.

“After I had my son, I struggled with [PMDD] a bit, and there’s just not a lot of conversation or research around it,” Bieber said.

The model said talking about her struggles has helped her.

“Conversation, for me personally, makes me feel less alone,” she shared. “When we can identify with each other and have conversations relating to each other and talking about the things we’re dealing with and struggling with, I do think it makes it feel like less of a lonely journey.”

Bieber told WWD she was drawn to women’s health, and was frustrated with the lack of awareness about it.

“Especially after having my own child. That was just a really intense and special journey that I had,” she explained. “There’s so much that happens when you are pregnant, during childbirth. There’s so many things that happen leading up to having a child.”

The influencer and her husband, Justin Bieber, welcomed their now 2-year-old sonin August 2024.

She first revealed she had PMDD during her appearance on the “SHE MD Podcast”back in May, noting that it disrupted her work, relationships, and social life.

“For me, it felt like the week before my period was not just ‘PMS,’” she explained. “It felt extreme mentally. Like, ‘Why does it feel like my whole entire life is going to end?’”

“It sucks,” she added. “It is also dangerous, and it should be taken seriously.”

Hailey isn’t the only celeb who has spoken out about having PMDD. “Riverdale” alum Lili Reinhart, singer Zara Larsson and influencer Dixie D’Amelio have all openly talked about having the disorder.

D’Amelio spoke about how it severely affected her mental health and relationships during the Season 3 premiere of “The D’Amelio Show” on Hulu back in September 2023.

“People are going to be like, ‘Oh my God, everybody gets that.’ Like, no,” she said in a confessional.

“I didn’t know that you weren’t supposed to want to die every month before you got your period,” she continued. “It’s not supposed to affect every single aspect in your life from sleep to anxiety.”

D’Amelio, 25, noted that her symptoms also included “losing the will to live, irritability and anger.”

More recently, Reinhart appeared on the “Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky” podcast in November 2025 and said she discovered she had “horrible PMDD”after she stopped taking anti-depressants and birth control.

“So, the week before my period, I feel suicidal,” Reinhart, 30, said. “And I didn’t know that I felt that way until I wasn’t on medication.”
